A Dream Start for Sri Lanka vs Netherlands in the ICC World Cup 2023 Match 19

Sri Lanka has the start they were looking for. The first half of the match belonged to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka managed to get 6 wickets for 93 on the board after 22.4 overs. In the first powerplay, they scored 48 runs for the loss of 2 wickets which belonged to the Netherlands. But after that, the Netherlands lost their way and became 6 for 91.

One thing that favors the Netherlands team is that their lower order is capable of scoring more runs than the top order. Against South Africa, they were in the same situation, 112/6 at one stage, and then managed to score 245 in 43 overs.

Kasun Rajitha who is playing for Dumith Wellalage has got 3 wickets without conceding many runs. In his 7 overs, he only gave away 27. Dilshan Madushanka got 2 wickets for 32 runs in his 7 overs spell. So, both the pacers have set the game for Sri Lanka to get something under the built. Maheesh Theekshana removed the Netherlands captain to make things easier for the upcoming bowlers. Colin Ackermann is the top scorer for the Netherlands with 29 runs till the halfway stage.

Early on, the Netherlands won the toss and elected to bat first to set a good target on the board and try to get Sri Lanka under pressure. But Sri Lanka is on top at the moment now. No boundary is conceded for more than 20 overs which is remarkable on these pitches.

Sri Lanka needs to win this match to stay in the contest otherwise it will be curtains for them. They are at the bottom of the points table right now. Sri Lanka’s fixture is difficult so they need to do well to keep themselves in the race for Semi-Finals.
