Abdullah Shafique isn’t in the World Cup 2023 squad; Saud Shakeel is. As Pakistan gets ready to name their final 15-man squad for the ICC World Cup in 2023, Saud Shakeel is likely to be included.

During the third ODI of their recently concluded series against Afghanistan, Pakistan included Shakeel in their 17-person Asia Cup roster. Tayyab Tahir was consequently excluded from the discussion.

Since Pakistan will be playing on spin-friendly tracks in India, Shakeel’s skill against spin is anticipated to work in his favour.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) must receive the names of the final 15 players for Pakistan’s World Cup squad by September 5 at the latest. Therefore, it is very likely that two players from the current Asia Cup roster will not be selected.

Abdullah Shafique might find himself on the outside looking in when it comes to the World Cup squad, according to the selectors and team management’s careful considerations.

The team’s selectors are also thinking about leaving Faheem Ashraf off the roster because backup pacer Mohammad Wasim Jr., who can contribute down the order, is already there.

It should be noted that changes to the squad may still be made up until September 28; however, any changes made after that date must receive ICC (International Cricket Council) approval.
