AC Milan has reached an agreement for the transfer of promising youth player and Italy Under-19 international, Mattia Liberali, to Catanzaro. As part of the deal, Milan will retain a 50 percent stake in any future transfer fees for the player.
Liberali, a versatile attacking midfielder who celebrated his 18th birthday in April, has already established himself as a key player for the Italian Under-19 national team, earning 10 caps and scoring four goals.
Having progressed through Milan`s renowned youth academy, Liberali was initially expected to join the club`s Under-23 squad this season. However, their recent relegation to Serie D made such a move less beneficial for his development.
Concerns Over Playing Time Led to Liberali`s Milan Departure
Despite participating in pre-season training with the senior squad under new coach Max Allegri, a clearer path to regular first-team action at Milan was not apparent for Liberali.
Consequently, the decision was made to transfer him to Serie B club Catanzaro, a move anticipated to provide him with more consistent playing opportunities and exposure to higher-level competition.
Reports from Calciomercato.com indicate that all necessary documentation has been signed and exchanged between both clubs. The final steps for Liberali include undergoing a medical examination and formalizing his contract.
While the transfer to Catanzaro is a permanent one, reportedly for a nominal fee, AC Milan has strategically secured a significant 50 percent share of any future sale profits should Liberali move on from Catanzaro.
Liberali`s previous contract with AC Milan at San Siro was set to expire in June 2026.
