AC Milan is reportedly close to finalizing a transfer agreement for Zachary Athekame, the promising right-back from Swiss club Young Boys. The deal is expected to be worth approximately €10 million, a figure that includes performance-related bonuses, with an initial fee anticipated to be around €7-8 million.
While the transfer is not yet officially confirmed, sources indicate that the agreement is very close to completion. Young Boys had no immediate plans to sell Athekame; however, once AC Milan expressed strong interest, the player himself actively pushed for the move, recognizing it as a significant and unmissable career opportunity.
Athekame: A Cost-Effective Option for Milan
Initially, Young Boys had sought a transfer fee of €10 million plus additional bonuses. However, current negotiations suggest that the final transfer fee will be around €10 million in total, inclusive of all add-ons. Both clubs are diligently working to finalize the terms, based on a base fee of €7-8 million supplemented by performance-based incentives.
This valuation represents a significant difference compared to the situation with Guela Doué, whom Strasbourg had priced at an exorbitant €30 million. That high valuation had previously prompted Milan to explore other options. Now, the Rossoneri are on the verge of acquiring this more affordable alternative, Athekame, to bolster their squad.
