As Newcastle United gears up for its preseason tour in Asia, featuring matches against the K-League All-Stars and Tottenham, the club might soon face the prospect of a future without its standout forward, Alexander Isak. The Swedish international, currently absent from the tour due to what the club attributes to an injury, reportedly desires to depart St. James` Park, as per The Athletic.
Liverpool, a long-time admirer of Isak`s capabilities, was previously informed that he was not available for transfer. The current situation, however, could dramatically alter that stance.
Given this apparent stalemate and his reluctance to sign a new contract, Liverpool`s interest might resurface, even after their recent acquisition of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt. In the fiercely competitive landscape of the Premier League, securing a striker who has consistently delivered 20-plus goals for two consecutive seasons would be an invaluable asset, bolstering Liverpool`s top-tier aspirations for years to come.
Last season, Isak was instrumental in Newcastle United`s return to Champions League football and their EFL Cup triumph, contributing an impressive 27 goals and six assists across all competitions. Such a prolific output would represent a significant enhancement for any club he might join should he indeed depart. While both Liverpool and Arsenal have already invested in strengthening their offensive options, making a high-priced move for Isak seem less likely, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano suggests that Liverpool`s signing of Ekitike does not preclude Isak from remaining a potential target.
Furthermore, prior interest from Bayern Munich in Liverpool`s winger Luis Diaz could play a role; should the German champions renew their efforts for Diaz, it would simultaneously free up squad space in Liverpool`s crowded attack and provide crucial funds, potentially enabling a stronger bid for Isak that could test Newcastle`s resolve. Conversely, Newcastle might attempt to retain Isak with improved contract offers, as losing a player of his caliber so close to the season`s start would undoubtedly create a substantial void.
