Massimiliano Allegri, despite his team`s recent 2-1 victory over Napoli at San Siro on Sunday evening, still regards Napoli as the primary contenders for the Serie A title. He also articulated the points Milan will need to achieve their main objective for the 2025-26 season: qualification for the Champions League, rather than the Scudetto.
Allegri`s Outlook on Milan`s Top Four Ambitions
Milan ascended to the top of the Serie A table, now tied on points with both Napoli and Roma after five matches, following their significant 2-1 triumph over the Partenopei. This win temporarily placed them at the summit of the league.
Despite overcoming the reigning champions and subsequently surpassing them in the standings, Allegri maintains his conviction that Napoli remains the most probable side to win the Scudetto by the close of the 2025-26 campaign.
“They are the Scudetto holders, and we must focus on step-by-step improvement,” Allegri stated during his post-match press conference on Sunday evening.

Reflecting on the match, Allegri commented, “The first half was technically strong from both teams. After a penalty reduced us to ten men in the second half, we defended exceptionally well. Our substitutes made a significant contribution. It was a challenging encounter against a formidable Napoli opponent.”
He further highlighted the team`s strengths: “This squad possesses highly skilled technical players. Rafael Leão is still building his match fitness and played more than ideal due to the game`s demands, but we have strong alternatives. The crucial aspect is that everyone shares the same objective: securing Champions League football next season.”
Allegri concluded by saying, “We will savor this victory for now, but tomorrow, it`s back to work.”

To achieve this Champions League objective, Allegri calculates that Milan needs a total of 76 points, meaning they must accumulate an additional 64 points from their current standing after five matches.
He reiterated, “I see a dedicated group of players eager to perform well, who understand that our target is to return to the Champions League. With 64 points still needed, we must proceed cautiously, enjoy our wins, but avoid excessive euphoria.”
