KAA Gent left-back Archie Brown has disclosed that a transfer to AC Milan was “basically done” before a last-minute intervention led him to choose Fenerbahce instead.
Conflicting reports emerged regarding the situation, with some suggestions claiming the defender even had two private jets awaiting his decision between Milan and Istanbul. Ultimately, Brown opted for a move to the Turkish Super Lig side, where he will play under coach Jose Mourinho.

“The deal was basically done with AC Milan. I was ready to go,” Brown stated when speaking to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
“But then, I got a call from the Fenerbahce President overnight. That changed everything. The passion he showed, the vision… it made the decision clear. I knew I had to come to Fener.”
This account aligns with general reporting from Italy, Belgium, and Turkey, suggesting that while Milan had expressed interest, Fenerbahce pursued the player with greater intensity and determination.
Sources indicate the decision was less about the transfer fee, which was around €9m for both clubs, or personal contract terms, and more about the compelling approach from the Turkish club.
Brown is reportedly set to sign a four-year contract with Fenerbahce, including an option for a fifth year, and is expected to earn €1.5m per season.
