"As if a crocodile's jaws were trying to grasp a ball," Mark Waugh destroys a Pakistani player following a startling error in the second Test

“As if a crocodile’s jaws were trying to grasp a ball,” Mark Waugh destroys a Pakistani player following a startling error in the second Test. The fielding department has always been a weak point for Pakistan’s cricket side, and recent events have brought this weakness to light once more. Their slip fielding is being particularly scrutinized; during the first Test in Perth, they were criticized on social media for several dropped catches.

This defensive weakness was exposed once more on Thursday, and it cost them dearly as Mitchell Marsh was able to continue his offensive innings in Melbourne after Abdullah Shafique botched an easy opportunity.

Even though Pakistan dominated the first few overs and took four Australian wickets for just 17 runs in the second innings, Mitchell Marsh’s counterattacking strategy appeared to change the tide of the match as he attempted to relieve the strain the pacers were putting on the opposition.

Former Australian cricketer Mark Waugh, who was watching the action from the commentary box, wasn’t shy about sharing his opinions on Shafique’s slip-catching style. Waugh said after the drop that it resembled “a crocodile jaw trying to catch the ball.

Marsh’s shot created an outside edge in an attempt to cover drive an Aamer Jamal delivery that was more full. Although Shafique’s blunder startled his teammates and bowler Jamal, Pakistan lost an important wicket as a result of his seemingly ordinary catch opportunity.

Since 1995, Pakistan has not won a Test match in Australia, and they have never before won a series in the longest format in Australia’s history. Prior to the series, Pakistan also experienced a change in leadership when Babar Azam resigned from all forms; Shan Masood was named the Test captain, and Shaheen Afridi assumed leadership in the Twenty20 Internationals.
