AS Monaco has officially confirmed that their captain, Denis Zakaria, will remain with the club, successfully concluding a brief period of speculation surrounding his future. The midfielder`s position at Monaco, a key player and leader since his arrival two years ago, was questioned earlier this week following reports of a potential transfer to a Saudi Arabian club, Al-Ahli, despite him featuring in Monaco`s recent 3-1 victory over Le Havre AC.
The Principality club moved quickly to address the rumors, issuing a definitive statement which clarified that: “there will not be a departure, between now and the end of the transfer window, for their captain, Denis Zakaria, who was recently the subject of interest from a Saudi club.”
Monaco`s CEO, Thiago Scuro, and manager Adi Hütter further elaborated on the decision. Hütter stated, “Despite all the Saudi`s efforts, we had a good conversation with Zak. He loves to be here.” Scuro added context, explaining that Zakaria`s integral role as captain meant there was no need for convincing. Instead, it was about presenting the facts and respectfully considering the offer. “We decided that the best option for everyone was to keep going here at Monaco,” Scuro clarified, emphasizing the swift and amicable resolution: “It was less than 48 hours between the start and the end, and made less impact because it was on a day off. We could talk more calmly. Denis also had more time to think and to discuss those topics, and turn the page.”
The brief transfer saga apparently had minimal impact on Zakaria or the team`s morale. Hütter confirmed that the captain was undisturbed by the talks and is fully prepared for Monaco`s upcoming match against Lille OSC. Teammate Eric Dier even light-heartedly admitted his unawareness of the situation, quipping, “I don’t know French media, so I didn’t know anything! I didn’t even notice, and didn’t notice anything in the way that Zak has been.” This suggests a calm and unaffected dressing room, allowing Monaco to focus on their season objectives with their captain firmly in place.
