Initial expectations at AS Monaco suggested that Maghnes Akliouche (23) would be departing this summer. While the French youth international is indeed available, the club has set a prohibitive €70 million valuation, which has reportedly deterred numerous potential suitors.
However, it now appears that another promising academy product might be on his way out instead: Eliesse Ben Seghir (20). While earlier reports from Nice-Matin indicated that Ben Seghir was not for sale, Monaco’s CEO, Thiago Scuro, had expressed a strong desire to retain the Morocco international at the start of June.
He is a special talent, a special player. We have the intention to keep developing him here. I think his prime is to come. It is our intention that he stays.
Despite Scuro`s prior statements, Monaco’s position seems to have evolved. Ben Seghir himself is reportedly keen on a transfer, and the club is now open to facilitating a move. Nevertheless, “Les Monégasques” have set a considerable price tag for the young forward, with Nice-Matin indicating a valuation of €50 million.
