Aston Villa has officially secured the services of Dutch goalkeeper Marco Bizot, aged 33, from Stade Brestois 29 for an undisclosed sum. This move marks a significant addition to the Villans` squad as they prepare for an exciting season ahead, bolstering their goalkeeping options.
Bizot departs Brest following a successful four-season tenure in Brittany, during which he was instrumental in the club`s unprecedented qualification for the UEFA Champions League. In the 2023/24 Ligue 1 campaign, he impressively featured in all 34 matches for Éric Roy`s team, remarkably conceding only 34 goals. This outstanding defensive record contributed significantly to Brest achieving a third-place finish, their highest ever in the club`s history.
The seasoned goalkeeper is an alumnus of the renowned Ajax youth academy, having also represented prominent clubs such as Groningen, Genk, and AZ Alkmaar. During his time at these clubs, he frequently participated in European tournaments, showcasing his abilities on a continental stage. His debut for the Netherlands national senior team came in 2020, further solidifying his experience at the highest level of football.
Bizot`s transfer to the Premier League concludes a highly productive period in Ligue 1, where he established himself as one of the division`s most reliable and consistent goalkeepers. He now links up with Unai Emery`s Aston Villa squad, as they gear up for their upcoming Europa League campaign, bringing a wealth of experience and proven quality to the team`s defensive core.
