Atalanta`s director, Tony D`Amico, has openly stated the club`s `disappointment` regarding Ademola Lookman. He confirmed that a decision on the player`s future will be made once the summer transfer window concludes.
This update on Lookman`s status was provided by Atalanta ahead of their initial Serie A match against Pisa.
D`Amico informed DAZN, as reported by TMW, that “Lookman is currently not participating in group training, and such situations are becoming increasingly common.”
Atalanta Expresses Disappointment Over Lookman
He added, “While we regret this for everyone involved, this is the current reality. We will conduct a thorough review at the close of the transfer window. Our sentiment today is one of disappointment.”
This statement suggests that Atalanta will either reintegrate Lookman into the team by September or continue to keep him separate from the main squad.
In early August, Lookman had strongly advocated for a move to Inter, a rival club within Italy. However, the Milan giants were unable to meet Atalanta`s €50 million valuation.
The player even removed photos featuring him in an Atalanta jersey from his Instagram account. Surprisingly, he then rejoined the club`s training center for pre-season activities just last week.
Lookman Continues Separate Training
Consequently, the Nigerian international has been excluded from first-team training and will continue to train individually for at least another week, meaning he will also miss the second round of Serie A.
The 27-year-old`s contract with Atalanta runs until June 2027.
Throughout 118 appearances for La Dea, he has netted 52 goals. His notable achievements include winning the African Ballon d’Or Award in 2024, an honor that followed his inspirational hat-trick in the Europa League Final against Bayer Leverkusen, securing the trophy for Atalanta.
