Atlético Madrid is reportedly considering a move for Botafogo`s 24-year-old attacking midfielder, Thiago Almada. The Argentina international, a winner of the 2022 World Cup, spent the latter part of the 2024-2025 season on loan at Lyon, a club also owned by Eagle Football. This loan was a way for the Ligue 1 side to bypass a transfer restriction imposed by the DNCG.
A second loan spell at Lyon is considered unlikely, given that Lyon holds Almada`s economic rights within the Eagle Football portfolio. Almada`s future has been unclear, but Botafogo, where he is currently under contract, is reportedly tasked with finding a permanent exit solution for him.
While SL Benfica was rumored to be interested, the Portuguese club is not expected to make an offer exceeding €30 million. This scenario could work in Atlético Madrid`s favor, as a move to Diego Simeone`s side is now seen as a very credible option for Almada.
