Atlético Madrid has officially confirmed reaching an agreement with Botafogo for the transfer of attacking midfielder Thiago Almada, 24. The Argentine, a 2022 World Cup winner, is set to join the Spanish club.
According to reports, including insights from Fabrizio Romano, Atlético Madrid will specifically acquire half of Almada`s economic rights from Olympique Lyonnais, valued at a reported €21 million. Almada spent the latter half of the 2024-2025 campaign on loan with Lyon, where he recorded two goals and five assists in 20 appearances. This loan arrangement reportedly helped the French club navigate DNCG-imposed transfer restrictions.
Upon his arrival in Madrid, Thiago Almada is expected to play alongside fellow Argentine international Rodrigo de Paul, though rumors suggest De Paul could be moving to Inter Miami soon.
