Chelsea defender Axel Disasi, 27, has openly shared his profound desire to rejoin AS Monaco during the recent summer transfer window, revealing he pushed “until the last minute” for the move. Disasi had spent the latter half of the previous season on loan at Aston Villa, but the move was not made permanent, leading to his return to Stamford Bridge.
Upon his return, it quickly became evident that the French centre-back was not a part of Enzo Maresca`s strategic plans. The London club consequently sought to offload the defender before the transfer window closed, though their attempts ultimately proved unsuccessful.
Despite not securing a permanent move, Disasi confirmed in an interview with Le Média Carré that he attracted interest from other Premier League sides, including West Ham United and Bournemouth.
However, it was the prospect of rejoining his former club, AS Monaco, that deeply resonated with him. Disasi expressed a strong emotional connection and a profound longing to return to the Principality side, reflecting on his history with the club:
“When Monaco came in, after approaches from Bournemouth and West Ham, it hit me emotionally. I had three incredible years at Monaco. When they came in, all the memories came back. Monaco is home.”
He further elaborated on his determined efforts to make the transfer happen, stating:
“I hoped that Chelsea would find a solution to allow me to leave on loan […] I pushed until the last minute to go to Monaco!”
Ultimately, a loan deal could not be finalized. This was primarily due to Chelsea having already reached their maximum quota for loaning out players. Concurrently, AS Monaco was exclusively pursuing a temporary loan agreement, which regrettably prevented Disasi`s much-desired return to his former club.
