A young defender from Spanish giants Barcelona has accompanied the first-team squad for their upcoming encounter with Atlético Madrid, even though he is ineligible to play.
The player in question, Pau Cubarsí, is suspended for the fixture. This follows his red card in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie last week.
Barcelona is preparing for their return to continental action on Tuesday evening. They will travel to the Metropolitano stadium to face Diego Simeone’s Atlético in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash.
Despite his unavailability, the 19-year-old defender has made the trip to Madrid to offer his support to his teammates.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the decision was a collective one: “Pau Cubarsí travelled to Madrid with Barcelona squad despite suspension as players and Flick agreed on being all together.”
