Barcelona legend Lionel Messi sets another World Cup record

Football & Cricket

Barcelona icon Lionel Messi has on Monday continued to etch his name ever further into the history books of international football.

This comes owing to his exploits at the World Cup.

Messi’s Argentina are currently locked in action at world football’s grandest showcase, in a group stage meeting with Austria.

The reigning tournament holders’ captain and talisman was, as expected, afforded a starting berth for the fixture, slotting in behind attacking spearhead Lautaro Martínez.

And as alluded to above, Messi has since gone on to secure for himself some altogether high-profile history.

After fluffing his lines from the penalty spot early on, the 38-year-old made up for his miss later in the first-half, courtesy of a trademark left-footed strike from the edge of the area.

And owing to as much, Messi has broken his tie with Miroslav Klose, to become the outright all-time top goalscorer at the World Cup.
