Barcelona winger Raphinha has disclosed that he rejected proposals from two prominent English football clubs before joining the Catalan giants.
The prolific wide player is currently enjoying another highly successful season in Barcelona. Despite grappling with several injury setbacks, the Brazilian has participated in 33 matches across all competitions, accumulating an impressive 29 direct goal contributions.
These contributions have been instrumental in Barcelona’s triumph as Spanish champions, alongside securing back-to-back Super Cup titles.
However, as mentioned, Raphinha’s impactful performances might have been in the colours of either Arsenal or Chelsea had circumstances been different.
Speaking to the media this week, Raphinha admitted that he opted for Barcelona over a move to either North or West London when he departed Leeds United in 2022.
“I received offers from a team in blue and also a team in red from London… but the best decision of my career was signing for Barcelona.”
English Translation:
Barcelona star Raphinha has revealed that he turned down offers from two of England’s top clubs to join the Blaugrana.
The wide attacker is in the midst of another very productive campaign in Catalonia’s capital.
Despite being affected by a number of injury issues, the Brazilian has appeared in 33 games across all competitions.
And in these appearances, Raphinha has achieved an impressive 29 direct goal contributions.
These exploits have proven vital for Barcelona maintaining their status as Spanish champions, with consecutive Super Cup titles also secured.
As hinted at above, though, had things unfolded slightly differently, then such contributions might well have come in the kits of either Arsenal or Chelsea…
Speaking during a media exchange this week, Raphinha confessed that he chose Barcelona over a move to either north or west London when leaving Leeds United back in 2022:
“I had offers from a Blue team and also a Red team from London… but the best decision of my career was signing for Barcelona.”
