La Liga giants Barcelona faced mounting personnel concerns on Saturday during their crucial encounter.
The latest setbacks unfolded during the evening’s La Liga fixture between the Blaugrana and Atlético Madrid.
Hansi Flick’s side was in action in the Spanish top flight, aiming to leverage the unexpected defeat suffered by their arch-rivals Real Madrid earlier in the day.
As the match progressed, Barcelona appeared well on their way to achieving this goal, holding a 2-1 lead.
However, what was otherwise a productive night for the reigning Spanish champions was unfortunately overshadowed by not one, but two fresh injury woes.
The first incident occurred late in the first half in Madrid, when Ronald Araújo was forced to leave the pitch, seemingly suffering from a muscular problem.
Following the half-time interval, his replacement, midfielder Marc Bernal, also experienced a fitness complaint that required attention.
After being assessed by the visiting medical staff, Bernal too was advised to depart the field of play.
The full extent of both players’ injuries and their potential time on the sidelines remains to be determined.
