FC Barcelona has officially announced that they will host Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at Montjuïc’s Olympic Stadium for their second Champions League group stage fixture. The Spanish champions confirmed on Friday that this highly anticipated match, pitting the La Liga winners against the French giants, is scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, at 9 PM CET. Barcelona had initially hoped to play the game at their newly renovated Spotify Nou Camp, but the club has faced administrative difficulties in obtaining the necessary permits for the stadium`s reopening, necessitating the use of the temporary Montjuïc venue.
This upcoming encounter marks PSG`s significant return to Montjuïc’s Olympic Stadium, a venue that holds recent, dramatic history for both clubs. Their last meeting there was during the 2023-2024 Champions League quarter-finals. In that memorable tie, the Blaugrana initially secured a 3-2 victory in the first leg at Parc des Princes. However, Les Parisiens staged a remarkable and unexpected comeback in the second leg at Montjuïc, ultimately triumphing 4-1 over Barcelona to advance to the next round.
Both PSG and Barcelona have commenced their current Champions League campaigns strongly, each securing impressive victories in their opening group stage matches. The French champions demonstrated their prowess by comfortably defeating Atalanta 4-0, while a dynamic Barcelona side earned a hard-fought 2-1 win against Newcastle United.
