Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly considering a move for OGC Nice`s experienced French international right-back, Jonathan Clauss. The 32-year-old defender has garnered significant interest as his current contract with the Ligue 1 club approaches its end.
Clauss, a seasoned professional, previously showcased his talents at clubs like Lens and Olympique de Marseille. He has proudly represented France on 14 occasions, scoring two goals for Les Bleus. His move to OGC Nice occurred just last summer, following his departure from Marseille.
At Nice, Clauss reunited with coach Franck Haise, with whom he enjoyed a highly successful period at Racing Club de Lens. Under Haise`s guidance, Clauss and the `Sang & Or` achieved a remarkable second-place finish in Ligue 1, securing their qualification for the prestigious UEFA Champions League – a testament to their strong partnership.
With his current deal at OGC Nice entering its crucial final months, Clauss is understood to be actively evaluating his future career options. A potential transfer to Bayer Leverkusen would not only offer him a fresh challenge within the German top-flight but also provide an opportunity to link up with fellow French international defender Loïc Badé.
For Clauss, a return to Germany would be a familiar journey. He previously made his professional breakthrough in the country with Arminia Bielefeld, where he first began to establish his reputation as a formidable right-back. This prior experience could ease his transition back to the Bundesliga should the transfer materialize.
