Reports from L`Équipe indicate that Brentford has renewed its pursuit of AS Saint-Étienne`s 20-year-old striker, Lucas Stassin. The West London club had previously shown interest in the Belgian youth international earlier this summer, but their initial pursuit cooled off.
During that period, Brentford attempted to sign Arnaud Kalimuendo from Stade Rennais, who ultimately chose to move to Nottingham Forest instead. As the transfer window nears its close and with the club still requiring additional attacking options (especially given the ongoing situation with Yoane Wissa), Brentford has now rekindled its interest in Stassin.
Stassin delivered a strong performance for Saint-Étienne last season, netting 12 goals in 28 league matches. He was one of the few positives in a challenging campaign that saw the club relegated from Ligue 1. Despite Stassin`s desire to leave the second division, Saint-Étienne are under no financial pressure to sell.
The French club has already rejected a significant €15 million bid from Stade Rennais for the young forward, who have since shifted their focus to other players. Brentford will likely face a challenge in securing Stassin`s services before the transfer deadline.
