Brest Takes Significant Step Towards New Stadium Construction

Football & Cricket

Stade Brestois, the Ligue 1 football club, alongside the city of Brest, has announced a crucial advancement in their new stadium project. An inquiry commission, duly appointed by France`s administrative court, has issued an “unreservedly favorable” opinion regarding the proposed construction of Arkea Park, which is intended to serve as the club`s new home ground. François Cuillandre, the Mayor of Brest, stated, “The conclusions of this public inquiry represent a substantial stride towards the establishment of a long-anticipated and essential facility for the western Brittany region.”

Currently, Brest plays its home fixtures at Stade Francis-Le Blé, an older 15,000-capacity venue situated in the city center. This existing stadium does not meet UEFA`s current standards concerning design, accommodation, and safety, which previously necessitated the club, affectionately known as “The Pirates,” to host their Champions League matches in Guingamp. According to the findings of the public inquiry, the new 15,000-seat Arkea Park is slated for completion and readiness for use by the third quarter of 2028.
