Chidozie Awaziem, a 28-year-old Nigerian central defender, is reportedly on the verge of rejoining FC Nantes. According to reports from L`Equipe, he is expected to sign a three-year contract, marking a significant return to the club where he previously played on loan.
Awaziem’s professional journey began at the FC Porto academy, though he found it challenging to secure a consistent first-team position, making just 15 appearances for the Portuguese side. During his tenure at Porto, he experienced a loan spell at Nantes for the 2017–18 season, where he became a more regular feature, playing in 23 matches for Les Canaris. Following this, further loan stints took him to Çaykur Rizespor in Turkey and CD Leganés in Spain, before he made a permanent move to Boavista F.C. in September 2020.
His time at the Portuguese club Boavista was brief. After only one season, Awaziem was loaned out again, first to Alanyaspor in September 2021, and subsequently to Hajduk Split for the 2022–23 campaign. He returned to Boavista for the 2023–24 season, which also included short-term stays with FC Cincinnati and Colorado Rapids in the MLS.
Having yet to establish a long-term home at any club throughout his career, Awaziem will undoubtedly be looking to find stability and make a more lasting impact at the Stade de la Beaujoire with FC Nantes.
