Inter Milan head coach Cristian Chivu has stated he is disregarding the criticism directed at his team, asserting that he has “a multitude of other matters to concentrate on” as he gets his squad ready for Sunday evening`s Serie A encounter against Sassuolo.
The Nerazzurri are set to resume their Serie A campaign this Sunday against Sassuolo, fresh from a convincing 2-0 Champions League win over Ajax earlier on Wednesday. Despite their European success, their domestic league season has begun less favorably, with Inter accumulating only three points from their initial three Serie A fixtures, positioning them in 12th place. Their latest setback was a narrow 4-3 loss to arch-rivals Juventus in the Derby d’Italia last weekend.
Chivu Discusses Critics, Player Fitness, and Upcoming Talents

During his pre-match press conference on Saturday, Chivu addressed his detractors by stating, “I have countless other priorities to consider.” He elaborated, “The chatter from critics is an inherent part of football; it`s a constant presence. I approach my role distinctly, focusing intently on aiding the players.”
Chivu continued, “This team merits defense; they are a resilient unit. In March, they were the subject of widespread acclaim, before experiencing some unfortunate circumstances. We must remember their impressive season. I could use countless other positive descriptors. Their performance keeps me composed.”
Chivu also offered updates regarding the two players in his squad sharing the surname Martinez. He disclosed that Lautaro Martinez had been experiencing difficulty walking due to back pain earlier in the week but has now recovered and is cleared to play against Sassuolo on Sunday. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Josep Martinez is anticipated to receive a starting opportunity, potentially ahead of Yann Sommer.
“Lautaro participated in training today. He consistently demonstrates his utmost effort and possesses remarkable understanding, even during challenging periods. He was unable to walk on Wednesday, yet he still joined us on the bench, prepared to play if needed. He is available for tomorrow`s match. A Martinez will certainly feature,” he quipped.

Commenting on Sunday`s adversaries, Sassuolo, Chivu stated, “Sassuolo is a thoroughly prepared and formidable team capable of posing significant challenges. We must be prepared in all aspects.”
When asked if Pio Esposito would lead the attack should Lautaro Martinez not be in the starting XI, Chivu responded: “I need to maintain some suspense, but Pio displays both quality and eagerness, and he`s performing exceptionally well. I appreciate his dedication in training. This applies to everyone, including Bonny, all our forwards, and the entire squad.”
Chivu was also queried about when fans might expect to see summer acquisitions Luis Henrique and Andy Diouf in the starting lineup. He responded, “Opportunities for them to play will arise. Our recent matches haven`t provided the flexibility for specific rotations. Nevertheless, I empathize with them; they are consistently demonstrating their worthiness to be on the pitch.”

Chivu elaborated on their roles: “Andy is primarily a mezzala, though he has played in a two-man midfield. I haven`t yet had the chance to deploy him as a playmaker. Luis Henrique is versatile, capable of playing on either the right or left wing. He`s performing admirably and will undoubtedly get his chance to showcase his abilities.”
