De Laurentiis: New Napoli Stadium Expected in Three Years

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has confidently stated that the club will inaugurate a new stadium within the next three years. Simultaneously, he expressed his discontent, highlighting the challenges of operating within what he critically labeled as “a failing system.”

During his attendance at the Giffoni Film Festival, the esteemed club owner, who also boasts a prominent career as a movie producer, engaged with reporters. Unsurprisingly, their inquiries quickly shifted to pressing football matters.

De Laurentiis: A Blend of Optimism and Pessimism

De Laurentiis conveyed, “Our goal is to be competitive at the highest echelons, but the fundamental obstacle for Napoli is our entanglement in a flawed football system.”

He further stressed the critical need for bold decisions, issuing a stark warning: “Otherwise, the sport of football itself risks fading away within two or three years. We are jeopardizing our players` well-being, and it truly feels as though unseen forces are actively impeding football`s advancement and growth.”

The President has consistently articulated his disinclination to renovate the existing Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. His preferred vision has always involved constructing an entirely new state-of-the-art arena in a different quarter of the city.

To the considerable surprise of many present, he unequivocally declared yesterday, “The new stadium will be completed in three years.”

This declaration follows recent reports indicating a strategic shift in Napoli`s focus from the Bagnoli district to a new, prospective location in Caramanico, situated to the west of Naples. The new site is reportedly favored due to its anticipated proximity to a future Metro station.

This particular development is especially remarkable given that the local council had expressed significant skepticism and reservations about this specific proposal just a mere three months ago.

Consequently, a potential confrontation appears to be emerging between the local municipal authorities and De Laurentiis. The council is currently channeling its efforts into modernizing the Stadio Maradona, driven by the ambition for it to be designated as a host venue for EURO 2032.
