During his pre-match press conference today, Olympique de Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbi provided an update on defender Nayef Aguerd ahead of this weekend`s highly anticipated Classique against Paris Saint-Germain. Aguerd had been absent from OM`s mid-week trip to face Real Madrid, adhering to head concussion protocols.
The Moroccan international made his debut for Les Olympiens last weekend against FC Lorient. Despite sustaining a head injury during the match, he continued to play, ultimately scoring his inaugural goal for the club in injury time. However, he was subsequently sidelined for the team`s Champions League opener, with the club citing “head concussion protocol” as the reason for his absence.
When questioned about Aguerd`s potential involvement in Sunday evening`s Classique, De Zerbi remained evasive. “We will see and follow all the necessary medical protocol, we will then see on Sunday,” he stated, offering no clear indication of the defender`s availability.
Aguerd, alongside fellow defender Emerson Palmieri, joined OM from Premier League club West Ham United on the final day of this summer`s transfer window.
