Denver Summit FC Emerges as NWSL’s Newest Expansion Team After Fan Vote

The National Women`s Soccer League (NWSL) has officially announced the identity for its latest expansion franchise, now known as Denver Summit FC. This marks a pivotal moment for Denver, as the city prepares to host its inaugural NWSL season in 2026, alongside fellow new entrant Boston Legacy FC. The league had confirmed Denver as its 16th team earlier in January.

The unveiling of Denver Summit FC took place on Tuesday, following a comprehensive “Name The Club” online initiative. Fans were invited to cast their votes from a selection of six pre-determined options, each reflecting Denver`s local heritage, including choices such as Denver FC and Denver Gold FC. The voting campaign saw enthusiastic participation, accumulating over 15,000 votes and suggestions, with Denver Summit FC ultimately securing the highest number of first-place endorsements.

“We are absolutely thrilled to introduce Denver Summit FC as our official name and to share our distinctive crest and colors with the proud state of Colorado and the global community,” declared Jen Millet, President of Denver Summit FC. “It was paramount for us to collaborate closely with our community in the naming process. Our crest, color palette, and entire brand identity are a true reflection of Denver and the essence of Colorado. It beautifully encapsulates our ambitious aspirations and pioneering spirit to build what we envision as the premier soccer club worldwide.”

The unique branding, color scheme, and crest for Denver Summit FC were meticulously designed by acclaimed soccer graphic designer Matthew Wolff. The team`s visual identity incorporates vibrant hues of green, crisp white, passionate red, and earthy sandstone. Interestingly, the NWSL club coordinated with the Colorado professional ultimate frisbee franchise, Colorado Summit, during their naming discussions. The frisbee team itself is planning its own rebranding efforts, complete with a fan voting contest, ahead of its 2026 season.

“We are excited to firmly establish Denver Summit FC within the celebrated sports narrative of Denver,” commented Rob Cohen, Controlling Owner of Denver Summit FC. “Coloradans possess an innate passion for the outdoors, and therefore, it was always our clear vision that the club’s crest should vividly portray our magnificent natural surroundings. Our elevation naturally offers us a distinct home field advantage, and our overarching goal is to cultivate a club that consistently pursues unparalleled excellence both on and off the field. Much like the awe-inspiring Rocky Mountains, our collective mission is to distinguish ourselves while perpetually striving for new heights.”

In related news, Denver Summit FC recently announced the inclusion of former NFL quarterback Payton Manning as a minority investor within its ownership group. The franchise has also commenced construction on its cutting-edge performance center and has made a firm commitment to building a dedicated NWSL stadium. Plans are underway for a 14,500-seat facility at Sante Fe Yards, envisioned to be Colorado`s first purpose-built sports and entertainment district specifically designed for professional women’s sports, with an anticipated grand opening in Spring 2028.
