Inter`s wing-back, Federico Dimarco, has revealed a significant challenge he encountered last season while playing under former Nerazzurri head coach Simone Inzaghi. His primary concern was the frequent substitutions that often saw him removed from play before the final whistle, hindering his ability to complete full matches regularly.
During a pre-match press conference ahead of Inter`s Champions League fixture against Slavia Prague, the Italy international openly admitted to a recent decline in his `personal confidence`.
The current season began somewhat turbulently for Inter, marked by back-to-back league defeats against Juventus and Udinese. However, the team has since regained momentum, achieving three consecutive victories across all competitions, including a 2-0 triumph over Ajax in their most recent European outing.
Dimarco Discusses Differences Under Inzaghi and Chivu
At the press conference held before Inter`s match against Slavia Prague at San Siro, Dimarco was prompted to compare his experiences and the operational differences between working under current coach Cristian Chivu and his former coach, Simone Inzaghi.
He specifically pointed out that being consistently substituted around the 60-minute mark became a considerable obstacle for his development.
“You can only prepare for matches by playing. Coming off on the 60th minute a lot of the time was difficult to grow. I’m playing more this year, and it shows,” Dimarco stated with conviction.
When asked about the broader stylistic differences between the two coaching approaches, Dimarco explained: “We’re looking to play vertically a lot more, but we’ve not lost the base that we’ve had for the last few years.”
