Following AJ Auxerre’s promotion, 23-year-old center-back Clément Akpa made a significant impression in Ligue 1 last season, consistently featuring under coach Christophe Pélissier. His strong performances in France not only earned him a call-up to the Ivory Coast national team but also reportedly attracted interest from Premier League clubs.
Despite Auxerre successfully retaining their top-flight status, the club has experienced the departure of key players. Hamed Junior Traoré has returned to his parent club, Bournemouth, while Gaëtan Perrin has completed a transfer to the Russian top division.
Akpa could potentially be the next player to leave Pélissier’s squad. According to reports from L’Équipe, Eintracht Frankfurt, who finished third in the Bundesliga last season, have initiated an inquiry regarding the defender, signaling a potential transfer. The German club has reportedly shifted its attention to Akpa due to complications encountered in their attempts to sign Ko Itakura from Borussia Mönchengladbach. The Ivorian`s current contract with Auxerre is set to run until the summer of 2027.
