Emerson Royal was on the verge of finalizing a transfer from AC Milan to Besiktas. However, a last-minute turn of events now sees him poised to return to his native Brazil, joining Flamengo instead. This unexpected development could directly benefit AS Roma in the immediate future.
Earlier reports on Wednesday indicated that Emerson Royal was nearing a definitive agreement to move to Besiktas, approximately one year after his transfer from Tottenham to AC Milan. Yet, a sudden intervention by Flamengo led Besiktas to reconsider the deal. By Wednesday evening, updates confirmed that Flamengo was actively negotiating both the transfer fee with AC Milan and personal terms with Emerson Royal.

How Emerson Royal`s Transfer Saga Benefits Roma
Emerson Royal`s decision to join Flamengo rather than Besiktas could inadvertently pave the way for Roma to complete the acquisition of Wesley Franca. Wesley, also a Brazilian right-back currently playing for Flamengo, has already agreed to a €2.5 million per season contract with Roma. Roma, in turn, has submitted an an offer of €25 million, potentially increasing to €30 million with bonuses, for the player.

Despite a prolonged period of negotiations and being close to an agreement, Roma has faced difficulties in finalizing the deal. It is understood that Flamengo has been reluctant to release Wesley until they secure a suitable replacement right-back. Therefore, if the transfer involving AC Milan, Flamengo, and Emerson Royal successfully concludes, Roma might finally be in a position to bring Wesley to the Stadio Olimpico.
