La Liga side Athletic Club made a significant announcement on Friday, confirming that head coach Ernesto Valverde will be stepping down from his role at the conclusion of the current season.
Valverde, who returned to the Bilbao bench in 2022, has established himself as an influential figure at the club. However, the current campaign has presented considerable challenges for both the team and its manager.
Athletic Club currently occupies the 10th position in the La Liga table, having accumulated only 35 points from 28 matches played so far.
This period of underperformance has led to decisive action from the management at San Mamés. According to a statement released across the club’s official website and social media platforms, Los Leones confirmed the news:
“Ernesto Valverde, an Athletic Club legend, has announced that he will not continue as the club’s head coach next season via a short video posted on Athletic’s official channels on Friday morning.
“This decision had already been agreed with the club and is being made public now as we enter the final stretch of the season, with the team focusing on these last 10 LaLiga matches.”
