Bologna might consider themselves fortunate to secure a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Freiburg this evening. After an impressive start to the match, the Serie A team struggled to maintain control, allowing their German opponents to gradually assert themselves and come back into the game.
The Rossoblu began the match energetically, demonstrating good ball retention and earning an early corner. However, despite their bright opening, genuine scoring opportunities were scarce in the initial phase.
Freiburg progressively gained momentum, with Matthias Ginter narrowly missing a shot and Philipp Lienhart heading over from a set piece. The visitors subsequently threatened twice in quick succession, compelling Lukasz Skorupski to make two crucial saves as Bologna`s defence appeared momentarily unsettled.

However, Vincenzo Italiano`s squad regrouped effectively, breaking the deadlock in the 30th minute. After Nicolò Cambiaghi`s effort was parried by the Freiburg goalkeeper, Riccardo Orsolini was the quickest to react, confidently slotting in the rebound to put the hosts ahead.
Following the goal, Bologna appeared significantly more composed, maintaining a tight defensive formation and confidently seeing out the rest of the first half with their lead intact.
A Tale of Two Halves as Bologna Struggle Against Freiburg
The second half presented a much tougher challenge for Bologna, as Freiburg ultimately erased their initial lead with a determined performance.
Freiburg emerged with renewed vigor after halftime, seizing a prime chance to equalize in the 56th minute. A penalty was awarded against Santiago Castro for handball in the area, enabling Junior Adamu to confidently convert the spot-kick, bringing Freiburg level. Lukasz Skorupski also received a booking for protesting the decision.

Subsequently, the German side`s confidence soared, leading to a series of corners and persistent pressure on Bologna`s defensive line. Skorupski was once more crucial, making a brilliant save from substitute Derry Scherhant, before smothering Beste`s subsequent attempt.
Vincenzo Italiano`s team struggled to reassert control, with Freiburg appearing increasingly likely to score a decisive goal. Despite introducing substitutes Bernardeschi, Dalinga, and Miranda to inject fresh energy, the Rossoblù created few attacking threats. Odgaard`s late shot over the bar was their closest opportunity as the match concluded in a 1-1 draw.
Both teams now share a point in the Europa League standings, reflecting a balanced, albeit challenging, encounter.
