Football transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has shed light on the intricate transfer situation surrounding Manchester City midfielder Rodri, who has attracted keen interest from Real Madrid. Rodri himself recently fueled speculation by publicly expressing a potential desire to join the Bernabeu giants, a sentiment Romano has now corroborated.
In his latest YouTube update, Romano revealed that Manchester City has tabled a new contract offer to Rodri, aiming to secure his long-term commitment to the Etihad Stadium. However, the outcome remains uncertain as Rodri contemplates his options, while Real Madrid continues internal discussions about the 29-year-old as a prime target.
Fabrizio Romano’s Update on Rodri’s Future
Romano elaborated: “As I’ve previously mentioned regarding Rodri’s comments on Real Madrid last week, I’m providing an update on his future. The crucial aspect is that Rodri currently faces two distinct paths: either remain with Manchester City, potentially signing a new deal that’s already on the table, or explore a departure from the club. His recent remarks about Real Madrid were quite impactful, and it’s clear there’s genuine interest from Los Blancos, who are discussing him internally as an option. However, as of now, there has been no formal bid or direct club-to-club negotiations.”
He continued, “What’s important is that Manchester City has already presented Rodri with a new contract proposal, offering a significant salary. The ball is now in Rodri’s court to decide, considering financial aspects, personal preferences, family, and the club’s project, whether he wishes to commit to City, sign the new contract, or consider a move either now or by summer 2027.”
While Rodri’s future hangs in the balance, it appears Manchester City may already be strategizing for a potential successor in midfield. Reports, including those from BBC Sport, strongly link City with Nottingham Forest’s promising talent, Elliot Anderson. The young England international has impressed significantly this season, making him a sought-after player. Although other clubs are likely interested, the BBC report suggests Pep Guardiola’s side currently holds the advantage in securing Anderson’s signature, positioning him as an ideal replacement should Rodri depart.
