FC Metz is on the verge of signing 29-year-old Ivorian international Jean-Philippe Gbamin. Reports indicate that the versatile midfielder has successfully completed his medical examination, with an official announcement from the club expected very soon.
Gbamin`s professional journey began at RC Lens before he moved to FSV Mainz 05 in July 2016. After three seasons in Germany, he secured a transfer to Premier League club Everton. His time in England proved challenging, as he made only eight appearances for the Merseyside club. Following successive loan spells with Russian side CSKA Moscow and Turkish club Trabzonspor, he returned to France, joining Ligue 2 outfit USL Dunkerque.
Subsequently, Gbamin joined Ligue 1`s FC Nantes on a free transfer in August 2024, but featured in only 15 matches. In February 2025, he moved to FC Zürich, also on a free transfer. His stint in Switzerland proved beneficial, as he regained form and consistent playing time. With his contract at FC Zürich expiring this summer, he became a free agent, paving the way for his move to Metz.
Although Gbamin represented France at youth levels, he declared his international allegiance to Ivory Coast in 2017. He has since earned 17 caps for the Ivorian national team, notably contributing significantly to their successful Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign.
