FC Nantes Goalkeeper Alban Lafont Heads to Panathinaikos on Loan

Football & Cricket

FC Nantes` 26-year-old goalkeeper, Alban Lafont, is reportedly on the verge of a temporary transfer to Greek club Panathinaikos. The agreement is understood to be a direct loan, with no option for the Greek side to make the move permanent at a later date.

Lafont began his professional football career at Toulouse FC, where he amassed a total of 106 appearances. In July 2018, he moved to Serie A club Fiorentina in Italy. After spending just a single season abroad, he returned to Ligue 1, joining Nantes on loan. Following two successful seasons on loan at the La Beaujoire stadium, his transfer was formalized and made permanent in July 2021.

During his tenure at Nantes, Lafont firmly established himself as the team`s primary goalkeeper, participating in 129 matches for the club. However, his prominent role diminished last season under the management of former head coach Antoine Kombouaré. His most recent match for Nantes occurred in November 2024, in a 2-0 defeat against Le Havre AC.

Despite his current contract with Nantes extending until 2027, the former French U21 international now appears set to leave the club, at least for the upcoming period.
