Federico Chiesa has yet to rejoin the Italy national squad following Euro 2024. The current international window arrives at an inopportune moment for the Liverpool winger, whose participation in the upcoming Premier League fixture against Chelsea is uncertain due to injury concerns.
Despite the announcement of Gennaro Gattuso`s 27-player roster for the World Cup qualifiers against Estonia and Israel, the Liverpool forward, Chiesa, was notably absent from the selection for another consecutive time.
Earlier this week, Italian media speculated about Chiesa`s return to the Azzurri squad this month. However, the 27-year-old continues to await his initial national team call-up since his last appearance at the 2024 Euros.
Chiesa`s Last International Cap for Italy

Chiesa`s most recent outing for the Azzurri was in July of last year, during their 2-0 defeat to Switzerland in the Euro 2024 Round of 16.
While Gattuso is expected to elaborate on his squad choices during a press conference on Monday, recent reports from Liverpool indicate that Chiesa`s exclusion stems from minor fitness concerns.
Chiesa was absent from Liverpool`s Champions League defeat to Galatasaray mid-week and is still considered a doubtful starter for Saturday`s Premier League encounter with Chelsea.
Coach Slot Updates on Chiesa`s Injury Status

Just hours before Gattuso unveiled his squad, Liverpool`s coach commented on Chiesa`s status, stating:
“Hugo [Ekitike] is going to train today again, and let’s see where he is, and the same can be said for Federico.”
He added that the club would “have to wait and see after the session where exactly they are” regarding their readiness.
Chiesa boasts a record of seven goals in 51 international appearances for Italy. He has also enjoyed a promising start to his Liverpool tenure this season, contributing two goals and two assists across six matches.
