A key defender for La Liga titans Real Madrid is reportedly gaining strong consideration for a starting position in the club’s crucial upcoming fixture against Bayern Munich.
The player in focus is Ferland Mendy.
Mendy, who has recently overcome another injury layoff, has rejoined the full squad in group training under Álvaro Arbeloa’s management.
This reintegration signals an imminent return to competitive play.
During a pre-match press conference on Thursday, the Real Madrid manager indicated that Mendy is expected to feature, at the very least, for a portion of the match against Girona tomorrow evening.
Following this, a full return to a starting role for the former Lyon star is a distinct possibility.
According to a report from Diario AS, following challenges faced by Álvaro Carreras in the recent Champions League first-leg encounter against German powerhouse Bayern Munich, Mendy is being eyed as a potential replacement for the Spanish player for the away leg at the Allianz Arena.
This consideration is driven by a desire to leverage Mendy’s stronger defensive capabilities to better contain the dynamic Michael Olise.
