Veteran winger Florian Thauvin, aged 32, is reportedly on the verge of a surprising transfer to RC Lens, as per the latest information from L’Équipe.
Since joining Serie A club Udinese in January 2023, Thauvin has successfully revitalized his career. Despite this positive trajectory, he had previously voiced a desire for a new challenge, and it appears his wish is now set to be fulfilled.
RC Lens has been discreetly pursuing a deal for the former French international for approximately three weeks. Les Sang et Or, the popular moniker for Lens, are now understood to be close to finalizing an agreement with their Italian counterparts, Udinese. The anticipated transfer fee for this deal is reportedly around €6 million, according to L’Équipe`s insights.
A swift conclusion to the transfer is expected, potentially within the coming hours. Thauvin himself recently gave his approval for the move, having reportedly reached an agreement in principle at the end of July, a detail also confirmed by L’Équipe. Should the deal successfully materialize, Thauvin would become the latest 2018 World Cup winner to return to Ligue 1 this summer, following in the footsteps of notable players like Paul Pogba and Olivier Giroud.
