Barcelona Crowd Shows Support for Struggling Defender During First Appearance of the Season
Barcelona fans at the La Liga match against Racing Santander on Wednesday expressed their support for defender Alejandro Balde. This comes as the Spaniard faces a difficult start to the new campaign.
After a challenging individual season in 2025/26, Balde was rumored to be leaving Barcelona over the summer. He remained with the club, but manager Hansi Flick has indicated Balde is not currently a first-choice left-back. Both summer signing João Cancelo and young player Xavi Espart are ahead of him in the pecking order.
With Barcelona leading Racing Santander, Flick brought Balde on for his first appearance of the season after João Cancelo scored twice. The Camp Nou crowd responded by chanting Balde’s name in unison, showing their support for the player.
Spanish Translation of Tweet (for context, not part of original article):
“Balde, Balde,” chants Camp Nou. And he applauds, thanking the affection. Mendes said Monday night: "he will be fine in the future, don't worry." Well, today he is a little happier after debuting this season and at home.
