Barcelona Miss Out on Defensive Transfer Target

La Liga champions Barcelona have reportedly seen a promising defensive transfer target slip away this past weekend. It is understood that 18-year-old central defender Lucas Herrington is on the verge of moving to the Premier League, with Hull City being his likely destination.

Herrington, currently playing for Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids, has seen his reputation grow significantly since his move to the USA earlier this year. The young defender has been lauded for his performances both with and without the ball.

His impressive form earned him a call-up to Australia's World Cup squad this summer, where the Brisbane native managed to secure a couple of starts.

Eager to secure his signature ahead of potential rivals, Barcelona had reportedly submitted an offer for Herrington. However, this proposal was rejected, and the teenage defender is now preparing for a move to the English top flight.

According to Blaugrana insider Sergi Capdevila, Barcelona's initial offer was below the $10 million valuation set by the Colorado Rapids. Despite the club's efforts to scout him in person in the USA, they were unwilling to engage in a bidding war or pay an inflated price. Reports suggest Hull City is prepared to offer over $23 million for the player.
