Barcelona Surprised by Attacker's Public Comments
Barcelona's management was reportedly taken aback by recent public statements made by attacker Ferran Torres regarding his future with the club.
Torres sent a clear message to the club's leadership concerning their upcoming contract renewal negotiations.
The 26-year-old forward has been a subject of intense media speculation, particularly with links to Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain as his Barcelona contract approaches its final 12 months.
When asked about potential renewal discussions with Barcelona earlier this week, Torres expressed his expectations:
“What do Barça have to do? Show that they really want me, that they’ve come to negotiate. In the end, it’s all about talking.”
These comments have not gone unnoticed within the Catalan capital.
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, while Joan Laporta and his colleagues were not angered by their attacking player's remarks, they were surprised.
The report states: "FC Barcelona received Ferran Torres’ latest statements with surprise. What was not expected is that he said the club has to show him that they want him when the club have already told him for weeks that they want to renew his contract but that it must be in September for ‘fair play’ reasons."
English Translation:
Those in the boardroom at La Liga giants Barcelona were left somewhat taken aback by the comments laid out by Ferran Torres regarding his future this week.
This comes after the attacker sent a clear message to the Camp Nou brass regarding their upcoming contract renewal negotiations.
Frontman Ferran has of course seen his name dominate the headlines across not only Spain, but much of Europe over the last couple of weeks. Ahead of the expiration of his Barcelona contract terms in 12 months’ time, the 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain.
Drawn on his upcoming discussions with the Blaugrana regarding a potential renewal early this week, Ferran therefore made use of the opportunity to make his feelings very much known:
“What do Barça have to do? Show that they really want me, that they’ve come to negotiate. In the end, it’s all about talking.”
And as alluded to above, these comments have since not gone at all unnoticed behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital…
As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, though Joan Laporta and co. have not been left angered or ‘lost their composure’ with their attacking star:
‘FC Barcelona received Ferran Torres’ latest statements with surprise. What was not expected is that he said the club has to show him that they want him when the club have already told him for weeks that they want to renew his contract but that it must be in September for ‘fair play’ reasons.’
