Striker Georges Mikautadze, 24, has made an emotional and abrupt departure from Lyon. The player, who rejoined his boyhood club last summer after impressive performances for Metz, tearfully said goodbye to his Lyon teammates on Saturday as he prepares for a transfer to a Spanish club, according to Foot Mercato.
Initially deemed not for sale at the start of the transfer window, Mikautadze`s situation changed dramatically in recent days. Lyon, facing difficulties in selling other players, particularly Malick Fofana, was compelled to reconsider their stance when Villarreal tabled an offer of €35 million. The deal has already been agreed upon, and the Georgian footballer will travel to Spain for his medical examination and contract signing.
Mikautadze`s journey at Lyon carries a bittersweet sentiment. Released from the Olympique academy at 15, he then successfully rebuilt his career at Metz. His return to the club last year was anticipated to be triumphant, but instead, his spell was characterized by frustration, missed opportunities, and ultimately, an unexpected departure.
