Olympique de Marseille`s goalkeeper, Geronimo Rulli, spoke to the press on Friday afternoon ahead of this weekend`s highly anticipated Classique against Paris Saint-Germain at the Vélodrome. Rulli asserted that Luis Enrique`s current PSG squad represents the strongest iteration in the club`s history, posing a formidable challenge for his team on Sunday.
“This match is undeniably different from our last Classique at the Vélodrome a year ago,” Rulli remarked, referencing Marseille`s 3-0 defeat last October. “For one, it`s no longer my first time facing them; you gain valuable experience from previous encounters. This is a truly special fixture that captivates virtually the entire nation.”
Marseille enters the Classique following a narrow 2-1 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League, a performance that nonetheless instilled a sense of optimism despite the club`s historically challenging record against PSG over the past decade and a half.
“I believe we are currently up against the finest version of PSG ever witnessed – they have achieved nearly every possible triumph,” Rulli elaborated. “Of course, they are also our direct rivals, and that fact fuels our determination to overcome them. While we recognize the immense difficulty, our ambition, both as players and for the club, remains steadfast.”
