Government of Pakistan prohibits Pakistan Cricket Board

Government of Pakistan prohibits Pakistan Cricket Board. The PCB received a notice from the government’s Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (sports) mandating that they obtain approval from the government prior to concluding any big transactions. The PCB’s plans have been thrown off, and they are now unable to announce the timetable for the forthcoming ninth PSL tournament.

According to reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been prohibited by the government of Pakistan from selling the rights to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and foreign media for a period of two years. This instruction was released by the Cricket Managing Committee to kick off the bidding process for these rights.

An insider disclosed that the Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination (sports) government sent out a note indicating that going ahead, the CMC/PCB will need to have government approval prior to concluding any major transaction.

The cricket board’s ability to obtain favorable terms for media rights is now a source of worry, although the PCB had expected to make a substantial profit from the sale of rights. The original deadline for technical bids for the PSL broadcast was December 22, however there was a postponement owing to a meeting between the Prime Minister and Zaka Ashraf, the head of PCB’s Cricket Managing Committee (CMC).

The filing of technical bids was rescheduled for the beginning of January after the PCB notified prospective bidders of the delay. The PSL broadcast and media rights bidding process has been delayed by two weeks.
