Devonshire`s World Cup Dream Cut Short by Training Injury

Left-arm spinner Flora Devonshire will miss the upcoming ODI World Cup for New Zealand after sustaining an unfortunate injury to her bowling hand. Seasoned seamer Hannah Rowe has been officially named as her replacement, bringing an important change to the squad`s composition.
The 22-year-old Devonshire was on the cusp of making her debut in an ODI World Cup but suffered a laceration on her left hand during a practice session. The injury is projected to require a recovery period of two to three weeks, effectively ruling her out of the highly anticipated tournament.
New Zealand`s head coach, Ben Sawyer, conveyed his sympathies regarding the situation: “We all feel for Flora. She dedicated herself diligently to securing her place in this squad, and it`s truly unfortunate that her tournament is ending prematurely due to this setback.”
Hannah Rowe, who boasts 60 ODIs to her name, is now set to participate in her third ODI World Cup campaign. She will not be available for New Zealand`s upcoming match against South Africa on October 6 but is scheduled to join the team officially on the following day.
Sawyer expressed his confidence in Rowe`s inclusion, remarking, “We`re pleased to be able to call up a senior player of Hannah Rowe`s caliber. While she`s not a direct like-for-like replacement for Flora in terms of bowling style, Hannah offers a valuable all-round skillset and possesses prior experience playing in challenging sub-continent conditions.”
New Zealand commenced their World Cup journey with an 89-run defeat against Australia in their opening fixture. Following their match against South Africa in Indore on October 6, the team will relocate to Guwahati to prepare for their encounter with Bangladesh on October 10.
