Barcelona’s new head coach, Hansi Flick, has voiced his wish for Andreas Christensen to continue with the club beyond the current summer. This comes as the Danish defender’s contract with Barcelona is nearing its end.
It is understood that Barcelona officials have been in ongoing negotiations with Christensen and his representatives regarding a one-year contract extension.
Despite facing injury setbacks, Christensen is highly valued within Barcelona’s setup. He is recognized as a top-tier professional and an excellent defender.
During a media briefing on Saturday, Hansi Flick was asked about the future of his departing defender. Flick confirmed that the intention is for Christensen to stay, stating, “I want Christensen to stay, of course, that’s the plan. The plan is also for him to get some minutes tomorrow; not to start, but to get some playing time.”
This statement suggests that the club intends for Christensen to feature in the upcoming match, albeit not as a starter, to reintegrate him into play.
