The coronavirus pandemic messed up schedules, forcing the ICC to move this World Cup back by around six months from its intended spring 2023 start date. The competition will take place in October and November, with the final due on November 26, according to the most recent communications from the ICC.

Although India is scheduled to host the competition, there are still some, albeit minor, concerns regarding whether India will retain the hosting rights due to a dispute between the boards of India and Pakistan. The argument centres on India’s decision to abstain from the Asia Cup, which will be held in Pakistan in September. Pakistan has threatened to boycott the World Cup as reprisal if they do.

At the competition only ten teams will compete. There are seven who automatically qualify. They are in order of results in ODI cricket since the 2019 World Cup, India (HOST), New Zealand, England, Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

According to theor ODI results, one extra side will automatically qualify. The four teams vying for this final automatic qualification position are south africa, Ireland, Sri lanka, and the West Indies.

In a World cup qualifying competition held in zimbabwe in september, the final two spots in the competition will be decided. Along with the lower ranked ODI nationa like Zimbabwae, the Netherlands, Scotland, Oman, Namibia, UAE, and Nepal, the three teams who missed out on  automatic qualification will also compete in this qualifying competition.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Rules and Format is that the  round robin stage will be followed by semi finals and a final in the 2023 edition, keeping with the 2019 edition’s schedule. Each of the ten teams will face the other once throughout the round robin. Two points will be awarded for a win, while one point will be awarded for a draw or a no score.

The top four teams will be advance to the semifinals. Where the first place team will take the fourth place team and the second and the the second and the third place team with a square off.
