The schedule for the 2023 Men’s Cricket World Cup in India, hosted by the International Cricket Council (ICC), has been made public. On October 5, England and New Zealand square off in a rematch of the 2019 Final in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium to kick off the World Cup. The Final will also be held on November 19 at the same location, with November 20 designated as a backup date.

The showcase tournament will feature a total of 10 teams, the first eight of whom have previously qualified through the Cricket World Cup Super League. 

According to The Indian Express, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is presently the front-runner to host the eagerly anticipated India vs. Pakistan match at the ICC 2023 World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in October or November.

This game is crucial because it will be the first time since 2016 that the two bitter rivals will compete on Indian territory.

The high-stakes match will be played at the Ahmedabad stadium because the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) anticipates that many foreign fans would travel to India for the occasion. The largest stadium in the nation is the Narendra Modi Stadium, which has space for up to 100,000 spectators.

The BCCI plans to have a big launch event to announce the World Cup schedule following the completion of the existing Indian Premier League.

According to the report, Pakistan may end up playing most of its games in Chennai and Bengaluru for security reasons. In addition, the renowned Eden Gardens in Kolkata is being looked at as a prospective location for Pakistan games.

Design of Stadium and Facilities

The new stadium is located on 63 acres of land and has three entry points as opposed to the original stadium’s single entry point, one of which is connected to the metro. It has four dressing rooms, an Olympic-sized pool, 76 corporate boxes that can accommodate 25 people each, a 55-room clubhouse, and 76 corporate boxes. 

The stadium’s LED roof lights, which replace the typical floodlights at cricket grounds, are a special feature. An antibacterial, fireproof canopy with PTFE membrane is installed with LED lighting, and it covers 30 metres (98 feet) of the 55 metres (180 feet) of sitting space. Walter P Moore created the roof, which was made expressly to be lightweight and independent of the seating.

The stadium can accommodate a number of amenities in addition to the main playing field, such as an Olympic-sized swimming pool, an indoor cricket academy, badminton and tennis courts, a squash arena, a table tennis area, a 3D projector theatre and a clubhouse with 50 rooms and three practice fields. 10,000 two-wheelers and 3,000 vehicles can fit in the parking lot. 

Additionally, the Narendra Modi Stadium has a sizable ramp that can accommodate the simultaneous passage of almost 60,000 people. When not at capacity, the stadium’s lower levels of the ground are filled with spectators, maintaining the atmosphere of a packed house.
