During his inaugural press conference in France on Monday, new Olympique de Marseille acquisition Igor Paixão, 24, addressed the media. The Brazilian winger, whose €30 million (plus €5 million in add-ons) transfer from Feyenoord marks him as OM`s most expensive signing to date, pledged his complete dedication to the club.
Last season, Paixão impressively contributed with 18 goals and 19 assists. He is anticipated to play on the left flank, potentially opposite Mason Greenwood. He articulated his versatile approach, stating:
“While I enjoy scoring and assisting, I am also committed to defending. If I am unable to score, I will contribute to the team in any other possible way.”
He further emphasized his commitment, adding: “I aim to bring all my capabilities and dedication to this club. I believe we can achieve significant success, and I intend to give my absolute all on the field.”
The winger expressed profound gratitude for the warm reception he received from Marseille supporters:
“The welcome was truly incredible, and it only intensifies my desire to give even more.”
He highlighted a particularly meaningful aspect of the fanbase:
“I am aware that the supporters here are strongly anti-racist, which holds immense significance for me. Having personally experienced racism, this awareness fuels my determination to dedicate everything to this club.”
Paixão concluded by praising the city`s vibrant atmosphere, stating: “This city pulses with energy, and it genuinely motivates me. When I step onto the pitch at the Vélodrome, my goal is to fight tirelessly for these people.”
Currently recuperating from a minor injury, the 24-year-old confirmed he is nearing full fitness and is keenly awaiting his debut at the Vélodrome:
“I eagerly anticipate playing before these fans; it promises to be a truly special experience.”
